ESSAY 1
Within the debate on abortion, it is easy for most to look at this situation as political. It is vital to remember that most cases, such as the one Stacey is in, have emotions and attachments involved. In Stacey’s case, it is valuable for her to hear from her doctors that the condition her fetus has at 15 weeks, will not harm her own body in any way. With this information and my ethical standpoint on allowing the baby to fight as long as possible, I would side with the nurses who want to give the fetus a chance at life however long that may be. My disagreement with the nonpersonal position backs up my statement. The nonpersonal position does not value the fetus as made in the image of God (Slosar, 2011, p. 108). As a Christian, I believe that God has made us all in his image and has our lives planned to glorify him in whatever way that looks. I believe that the fetus that has been growing within Stacey has the right to continue fighting for life.
In contradictory to the personal position supreme value of autonomy, the Roe v. Wade case decided that an unborn fetus is not a person so it will not be protected under the Fourteenth Amendment. Although in recent rulings this case has been overturned, there are still state laws that can decide for themselves. In the text from the Row v. Wade ruling, it states that during the second-trimester states are permitted to regulate and prohibit abortions while leaving exceptions for protecting women’s health (Slosar, 2011, p. 103). Since Stacey is in the second trimester and her health is not being compromised because of her fetus’s condition, an abortion should not be completed. It is hard to have an opinion on someone else’s life without being in their position, but by looking at the given information, that there is no harm to the mother, I believe the fetus should have a chance to live as long as possible. If I were in this position and talking to my husband, and we both believed that it is all in God’s hands, I would continue to help my fetus fight for life.
ESSAY 2
Pregnancy is often viewed as the miracle of bring another life into the world. After working in health care, I have been able to witness situations in which a child is born with circumstances not compatible with life as well as circumstances that don’t lead to a good quality of life. “What should we do when we have information regarding a fetal anomaly, but there is not therapeutic or curative intervention?” (Slosar et. al., 2011, pg. 112). This question remains for many individuals after diagnostic testing during a pregnancy. Ultimately, I believe it should be up to the parents discretion on this decision. When thinking about a fetus who would have no quality of life and have no life saving measures that could contribute to a normal and healthy living life, I think it is fair to have the discussion of abortion. A child being brought into the world, should be able to live a healthy and normal life as any other human being would. The fetus coming in to the world with the potential to enduring suffering is not fair. The short time the child would be here would not be enjoyable or of any quality of life.
Another important topic to remember is “The mother who carries a child to fully term is subject to the anxieties, to physical constraints, to pain that only she must bear” (Slosar et. al., 2011, pg. 112). Without a doubt, a mother must go through many emotions and physically and mentally in order to birth a child. In most cases, finding out that you are having a child is exciting, to then be crushed with the news that your baby will not live long can be devastating. The process of birthing a child and seeing the defects can be traumatic for the mother. Then having a baby possible hooked up to many tubes and wires can be scary as well. In this case, terminating the pregnancy early and giving the child a sense of dignity I think would be the best move. I can see both sides of the spectrum in giving the baby a chance at life however, I also believe that the baby should have some type of dignity while living its life. Speaking for the mother, emotionally, she would have a lot to go through. From the husbands standpoint, I think the best thing to do would be supporting the mothers decision regardless of personal emotions.

But, i don’t think mezirow should make the blanket assumption that everyone in unfortunate circumstances is incapable of entering the discourse meaningfully.

Instructions:
First, return to your topic chosen in the week three assignment.
Answer this question: What are the personal and/or communal ethical factors that may be involved in determining the moral position of either side in that debate?
Next, articulate and then evaluate the ethical positions using Kantian ethics (that is, the categorical imperative) relative to the long standing debate (that is your topic chosen in the week three assignment).
Finally, create a complete annotated bibliography for 5 academic scholarly sources.
You will annotate each source. The sources should be relevant to your topic chosen in the week three assignment.
Include the following:
Publication details
Annotation (a detailed reading of the source)
Each annotation section should include the following:
Summarize key points and identify key terms (using quotation marks, and citing a page in parentheses).
Describe the controversies or “problems” raised by the articles.
State whether you agree or disagree and give reasons.
Locate one or two quotations to be used in the final research project.
Evaluate the ways in which this article is important and has helped you focus your understanding.
Use the following as a model:
APA Reference
Mezirow, J. (2003). Transformative learning as discourse. Journal of Transformative Education, 1(1), 58-63.
Annotation Example
In this article, Mezirow (2003) makes a distinction between “instrumental” and “communicative” learning. “Instrumental learning” refers to those processes which measure and gauge learning, such as tests, grades, comments, quizzes, attendance records and the like. “Communicative learning,” on the other hand, refers to understanding created over time between individuals in what Mezirow calls “critical-dialectical-discourse,” (p. 59) which is a fancy way of saying, important conversation between 2 or more speakers. Another key idea Mezirow discusses is “transformative learning,” (p. 61) which changes the mind, the heart, the values and beliefs of people so that they may act better in the world. Mezirow argues that “hungry, desperate, homeless, sick, destitute, and intimidated people obviously cannot participate fully and freely in discourse” (p. 59). On the one hand, he is right: there are some people who cannot fully engage because their crisis is so long and deep, they are prevented. But, I don’t think Mezirow should make the blanket assumption that everyone in unfortunate circumstances is incapable of entering the discourse meaningfully. One thing is certain: if we gave as much attention to the non-instrumental forms of intelligence–like goodness, compassion, forgiveness, wonder, self-motivation, creativity, humor, love, and other non-measured forms of intelligence in our school curriculums, we’d see better people, actors in the world, and interested investigators than we currently have graduating high school.

To do this, be sure to clearly define terms that the reader may not know.

In the book Medical Ethics: accounts of ground-breaking cases, please read about the Tuskegee Study (only pages 216-225) , please write a short (about 400 words) summary of this study, Be sure to focus, expand, and explain! To do this, be sure to clearly define terms that the reader may not know. Also, take time to fully explain the idea to the reader, do not merely assume they already know about the topic. To do this, feel free to use examples, reiteration or personal stories. Remember, your reader may be very different from you and not understand dense material as quickly and easily as you may want.

Describe features of the ethical perspectives that would be beneficial within a workplace/community with 5 ( five) detailed examples.
Pamphlet is correctly formatted and provides fully developed elements with appropriate artwork and text.
Resources – Eastern ethical systems.
The approach towards ethics in Eastern traditions (such as Confucianism, Buddhism, and Hinduism) is different from the approach taken in Western traditions (such as utilitarianism and deontology). For Eastern traditions, morality has typically not been a stand-alone topic whereas in Western traditions authors may write volumes only on ethics.
Another way to look at Eastern traditions is that they have a good deal to say about morality and right living, but they do not say much regarding ethics, or the evaluation of morality and why we do what we do. When ethics or moralities are addressed in Eastern traditions, the authors typically focus on the ideas of discipline, right action, or having the right character.
Perspectives such as those offered by Buddhism and Confucianism are not always easy to classify into commonly accepted (Western) frameworks. But, they seek to answer similar questions about how to live well, or rightly, like Socrates did.
